Alexandre,
In essence, but we call it an 'eCommerce Integration Server' PHP can use it
the same way you would use other databases, but you get some added features,
including the ability to reference tables in remote databases in one
location, and you can create XML documents that are real-time
representations of back end relational tables (either locally, remotely, or
a heterogeneous combination)
Check out the Overview (basically a FAQ)
http://demo.openlinksw.com:8890/doc/html/chapter1.html#I
and the advanced features:
http://www.openlinksw.com/virtuoso/vfeats2k.htm
This is the start of the docs (and happens to be served up from inside the
database).
Feel free to inquire off-list about any specific features, implementation,
or architecture.
Best regards,
Andrew
