I'm using MySQL for the db at my site, but I don't know what you
consider a big
site.
I got 412005 on my main webserver last month
and this month already got 389692.
I also got other servers that uses the same db server and of those hits
at least half
is related to the db. (the db is running on a 486/66 with 20mb of ram).
as for the best I don't know.
It depends on how much money you can spend on it, Oracle is pretty good
(but it is a memory hog).
and I never tried the other db software, so I can't really tell.
