If:
An XML database is analogous to a "pure data" database

Then:
An XML document is the analog of a table
XML Entities are analogs of columns
XML Attributes are analogs of column properties (aren't these "metadata"?)

So:
Not sure there is much more metadata in an XML database than in a data
database.
