output of $res is 1.

when I type the Unix command "hostname" from the shell, I got my
computer name:

hq60.newsham.com

This Linux computer is behind a firewall, so it is a web server only
accessible to people behind the firewall (for local use).

On the same computer, the php3
(php 3.0.12) sends mails correctly.
