[PHP-DEV] Re: [PHP4BETA] PHP 4.0b3 released From: Eli Marmor (marmor <email protected>)

Cheers!

OK, all of us already know for a long time that the database abstraction
was not going to be included in this beta. But are there any plans for
it? What is its status? Will it be included in beta4?

IMHO (well, I know some may disagree, you don't have to start a new
thread about it), the most important issues which forced many of us to
use PHPLIB were the session management (resolved with current PHP4), and
database abstraction. Although PHPLIB helped PHP a lot, it will be much
better, standard, efficient, and elegant to do these two things with the
core PHP. Is it expected soon?

(P.S.: If you are not convinced about the importance of it to PHP,
please take a look at today's thread of Slashdot about PHP4, and read
why people claim that Perl+DBI is better than PHP. I don't agree with
them, but I think it must be addressed).

Thanks,
