If people install binutils, they get a fresh and widely portable link editor
for free..

No, that does not repair defects in the underlying system, but it works
around limitations of old build tools.

I think I said this on new-httpd some months ago already. If supporting
a specific platform is possible without any major rework or adding to
much bloat, I'm all for it.

And the real question is: why would someone want to install PHP 4.0 on a
machine with 25MHz or less. Masochist? ;)
