Alas, no, but the error message is somewhat different.

4.0RC2 appears to Make okay, but when I run Make Install, I get the
following error:

/usr/local/sbin/apxs -i -a -n php4 libs/libphp4.s*
apxs:Error: file libs/libphp4.s* is not a DSO
make[1]: *** [install-sapi] Error 1
make: *** [install-recursive] Error 1
