That's good, but while you are at it reimplementing the test suite for PHP 4,
you may as well define a more structured format that will be easier to extend
to add more testing options. The obvious choice is something in XML as I
suggested, not necessarily something that exists, although it is worth to
investigate if is there any other XML format meant for specifing test
suites.

A good XML test description format would make tests more readable for
humans and consequently motivate users that post bug reports to write them
simplifing the life of PHP maintainers reducing the time to reproduce and
fix bugs.
