In fact I didn't had the possibility to check the solution you sent me Jul21, 01h12 GMT.

Our servers are only production servers, and I can't find the time yet to set up a test server
to apply the proposed solution.
We still have the problem now, but I now have access directly to the servers (it's a long story
you know) so I diverted 50% of the HTTP calls to a C program which accesses the database every
10 minutes. Dirty solution, but couldn't make it otherwise in the meantime.

I'll re-open this if I still have the problem with Danny's solution installed.

What's funny though is that if I use ifx_connect, I receive an error message called
'ifx_pconnect' ...
