This behaviour is still visible in PHP 4.0.2 with Roxen (pike 7.0.58).

Yes, I tried the latest snapshot from 15.Aug.2000.
But the Result is still the same.
Maybe you can give me a hint how to give a trace or debug a
certain part of php4

looks like this is a problem related to roxen sapi?
