Use PWS 1.0a instead. It's smaller and straightforward. Too bad Microsoft doesn't provide it
anymore, but some sites may still have it. Filename is PWS10A.EXE (757kb).

Subject: [PHP-DEV] PHP and PWS4
PHP works so WELL on my webhost server and I like everything about it as a programming language. So I decided to switch to PHP. And have spent the most frustrating two solid weeks of my computing career trying to get PHP3 or PHP4 Win32 binaries working on my Win98 home computer so I can design off-line.
I know the problem is some stupidly simple setting with Microsoft Personal Web Server 4.0 No matter what I do, PWS absolutely refuses to recognize any PHP commands.
I've done 5 different tutorials, spent hours reading the docs of both PHP and PWS, checked and rechecked the registry settings against the installation docs, read over the FAQs, gone on-line searching for a solution in forums, and can't find the problem.
My system works fine with asp pages and I have MySQL up and running fine, and it all links to Dreamweaver UltraDev but PHP? Nope.
By the way, I uninstalled everything to do with PHP and re-downloaded both PHP3 and PHP4 and set it up all again after becoming word for word familiar with the installation instructions. I even uninstalled and reinstalled PWS4.0 making sure I had all the options, including the docs installed properly and read the docs again.
If PHP was not such an outstanding language I would have given this away as a lost cause.
With the knowledge that everything works on this platform using PWSII EXCEPT PHP, can you think of what might be wrong?
Thanks
Richard Chesher
