    Well, it is your job to read and try to make sense of the
    emails you receive. I cannot do that for you. In fact, last
    week's message was that, if nothing bad happens, the release
    will happen at the beginning of this week. The message was
    repeated one day before the actual release.

    Those people who come now out of the woods have really no
    point in bemoaning that they needed a heads-up before the
    release (I'll make sure to call you next time). If there is
    anything of importance with regard to the release, you should
    inform the one handling the release _immediately_ and not
    wait until the last second.

    The tarball was there, the ChangeLog entry was there, the
    Download section was prepared, bugs.php.net was updated. Oh
    yeah, the front-page took a tad longer. Big point, if you
    consider that the announcement email contained only direct
    references to the ChangeLog and to the Download section.

    And now let's get over it. The main improvement in this
    release process was that we applied a much stronger Release
    Candidate Cycle than we ever did before. As far as I can
    judge the overall response up to now, it paid out well.
    Thanks and congratulations to the QA team for doing an
    amazing job.
