The compilation fails with the same error message
for version 4.0.3pl1 as well.

Was configured as follows:

boss 77# ./configure --with-mysql --with-apxs=/usr/local/apache/bin/apxs

The configuration process ended properly, but the compilation failed:

boss 78# make
