for the translations part: changes in the english originals might

break the translation every once in a while, that's just fact and
there is no way to avoid this without dropping the automatic use
of english originals whenever something is not translated

while splitting up files (no matter if the resulting files stay
in the same directory or are bundled into a new one) will add
additional work for translation maintainers at first it will
ease the maintanance of translations in the long run as getting
small files translated and keeping them in sync with the original
consumes far less effort on the long run
