Yeah, me too.

We don't change database engine as often as we can, do we?
So why add another layer between apps and database?

I ever programmed using Delphi to access to MS Access. If I know that I
can use more native way to do that (currently only available ODBC), I
will use that. But it is slooowwww.

Performance first!!
