There is one really easy answer to this. You shold give a damn about it if
you want to be able to have the best chance at scoring more paying work.

If a company is offering a nice big fat wad of cash for an ASP
programmer to build them a site using ASP, and you turn up saying "I
program PHP, its so much better than ASP and you should be using it" they
will laugh at you, ask you to leave and employ the guy who can program
ASP.

Its a nasty world, but its the world we live in where the implimentation
of a product and/or service isnt reliant upon the quality of that product
and/or service........... it comes down to how well its marketed to the
people with the big cheque books in the companies paying all the bills.
