Hello All-
This is an inquiry and call for interest in helping build PHP modules for WDDX. WDDX (Web Distributed Data Exchange) is an Allaire invented XML-based technology for exchanging complex data between Web programming languages. It is implemented as an XML 1.0 DTD and a set of Serializers/Deserizers for each language platform. Allaire is making the technology available for free, as open source, and is actively working with other language communities to implement WDDX interfaces. For general background information:
http://www.allaire.com/developer/wddx/
Allaire and various third-parties have already created modules for JavaScript 1.x, ColdFusion, Perl, COM/ASP and are working on the Java implementation. To really make the benefits of something like WDDX complete for everyone, we're really hoping to see Tcl, Python and PHP implementations as well.
At a high-level, WDDX provides a lowest-common denominator approach to distributed web applications based on the really existing languages that are driving the Web today.
First, we'd love general feedback: is this a good/useful thing, would PHP developers benefit from an implementation?
Second, what specific questions do you have about the implementation? About the various language implementations (e.g. what's involved, etc.)?
Third, we are actively seeking developers who want to build the PHP modules. There's no money in this for Allaire or anyone else; WDDX and a forthcoming WDDX SDK will be a freeware, open source project.
Please feel to reply to all (e.g. the list), or direct questions directly to myself, Nate Zelnick or Simeon Simeonev, the architect of WDDX.
Kind regards,
Jeremy Allaire
