[PHP3] Scalability From: James Stewart (lists <email protected>)

Hi,

I'm working for an organisation which is planning a major internet based
initiative around the G7 summit in Okinawa this summer. We are
anticipating a huge number of visits to a website we're going to set up
and I was wondering here if anyone knew of any resources I could use to
work out a reasonable budget for server/database setup/etc. If all goes
according to plan we hope to get millions of visitors over a period of a
few days to a site that would display information about events happening
across the world. This might include streaming video/audio, although that
aspect might be served from a separate server.

I expect we will outsource the development of the website and the database
but I'd like to be aware of all the issues involved and will be pushing
for PHP to be used in serving the content. Does anyone have any
suggestions of what sort of server capacity we need to be looking at?

Also, on a more mundane note, can anyone recommend any web hosts that
offer ImageMagick and PHP for no more than 16 dollars a month?

cheers. James.
