Yes and no. The reg mode as committed would fold your registration
form and the login form into one: Users which are registered and did
accept the username cookie will get the standard login form, the others
will get a registration form on the same location. Both are able to
toggle between both forms, which requires an extra click, as it is
now on danigi.com.

The difference is mainly the auth_username cookie and the auth_preauth
logic, both of which can be left out to get exactly your logic.
