[PHPLIB-DEV] [Fwd: [PHP4BETA] XSL module in PHP4] From: Kristian Köhntopp (kk <email protected>)
Date: 03/30/00

The PHP4 team is currently evaluating the implementation of the
Xalan XSLT XML processing language into PHP4. If they do this,
you will have a very powerful template mechanism in PHP4 which
goes far beyond Template anyway. All of you interested into
this should read and understand http://www.w3.org/TR/xslt
and http://www.w3.org/TR/xpath, which are the fundamental
building blocks of XSLT templates and element selection.

Is anyone working on a XSL (specially on a XSLT part) module?

I evaluated the market for XSL libraries. The most promissing approaches were XT by James Clark (the author of Expat, currently used in PHP and in XML::Perl and quite some other products, a very good engine) and Xalan by the Apache Group.

The problem with XT is that is just available and by the contact I had to J.Clark it looks like he has no idea if he is going to port it to C/C++.

The problem with Xalan is that it is just available in a final release for Java and the existing C/C++ version just runs on Win32 (which suckx, to say it directly). I am shure that will change but I do not know if that is a good sign of quality (do not understand me wrong I am no MS hater, just long time experience).

I specially think these two products would be good, since: - they are open source - will have or have already a wide base of users - do not use something like the mozilla license - have a high grade of functionality (at least in their Java versions)

What will come? Anyone any Ideas?
