That's great, especially no API change is required.
Got your patch, I'll test it at home with an existing app.
(I saw the demo is working :)

Yes, maybe there isn't interest in phplib anymore ??
I use sessions (still easier compared to plain PHP4), auth, permissions,
templates and especially the excelent db abstraction.
Does phplib need a new home ?!?
