[phplib] Problem with permanent connections? From: fabrizio.ermini <email protected>

Hi all!
I have been disconnected from the ML for some time, so first of all I
would like to greet ya all... I'm back on work on a PHPlib project,
so I'm gonna start asking stupid questions again... ;-)

Here's the first:
I'm experimenting with a brand new box with a postgreSQL 7.0 +
Apache 1.3.15 + PHP 4.0.0 + PHPlib 7.2b installation.
The machine is fast and has a lot of RAM (it will be a heavy loaded
site).
I feel that, in fact, these new releases work quite well... the
problem is that after working just a few hours on same PHPlib-
enabled pages, I've reached the max-client limit of postgres. All on
my own!!!
I'm afraid of what could happen when the site will be publicly
accessible... in a few hours of work I've caused 31 backend
processes to start.
Could there be some problems in the way PHPlib (or PHP?)
handles permanent connection pool? It seems that connections are
instantiated and never reused.
Anybody can shed some light?
(incidentally, even if this is a postgresql issue, I would be very
grateful if somebody could point me to where I can found
information on how to increase the max client limit of postgres. The
manual is of no help).

Ciao to all from italy!

Fabrizio Ermini
