[phplib] Application Framework using PHP, DOM, and JavaScript and other ideas From: Daniel E. Baumann (baumannd <email protected>)

Hello all. I have been toying with an idea to develop a GUI Library using
PHP, the DOM, and JavaScript. This would be a free software project that I
will probably start up on SourceForge. I want to start it out as a GUI
Library and then I will probably exapnd it to be more of a application
framework, using model-view-separation, etc. The idea would be to make
developing a web application more like developeing a real application. This
library would be a class library written in php.

I know there are some inconsistencies between the 2 main browsers, but with
Moziila coming and ECMA Script these issues will be ironed out eventually. In
the mean time I was planning on providing implmentations for both browser
event handling mechanisms (hopefully, once they all start implmenting the
standard things won't be such a pain). The advantages I can see for such a
creature would be that you could use PHP to program web applications and
it would be cross-platform. I would also need to use either phplib or
php4 for session management type stuff, so that things could be "remembered".

Do you think that you would use such an animal? Does anyone know of any other
related project? (I haven't searched the net yet so please forgive me).

Also, is eveyone happy with phplib's database abstraction? Would anyone be
intrested in a more sophisticated implementation, like a persistent framework
using OIDs, complex object instantiation, etc.
