I'd recommend the newer version of both products. PHP 4 has been in
play for quite a while - long enough that I'd expect that it's no less
stable than PHP 3, and I think you'll see support for PHP 3 disappear in
the next year.
phplib 7.2c is largely a bug fix release and it's also been out for a
while, so you'll want that version, and then check CVS for any bug fixes
which have been committed since July. PHPLIB 7.3 should probably be
considered unstable.
You'll probably want to use phplib's sessions and authentication
mechanism with a relational database to hold session and auth data -
this seems to be the most thoroughly tested. Patches that enable phplib
to use php4 session management are floating around if you're curious.
