[phplib] To PEAR Or Not To Pear From: Kristian Köhntopp (kk <email protected>)

People, please stop this.

Just like you, I think that a lot can be improved in PEAR. Part
of this is, because unlike PHPLIB, many parts of PEAR have not
been developed as part of a project, but _as_ a project, and
many parts of PEAR have never been tested together in a single
project.

But this is not the issue. PEAR is the _one_ library that is
being distributed with every installation of PHP 4. There is
no use in not liking PEAR, it is here to stay around and it is
to be standard. Unlike PHPLIB, PEAR will be part of
every standard installation at every webhoster around.

If you think that PEAR sucks, there is _one_ single way to
change this, and this is NOT to create another project or to
keep PHPLIB alive on Sourceforge or elsewhere. The single way
to make PEAR not suck is to commit to it and to beat sense into
those PEAR contributors which you think have stupid ideas about
how things should be done.

This is going to be hard work. Don't waste your breath discussing
that things SHOULD be different. Get yourself a CVS account on
cvs.php.net and commit them to death. This is the only way to
make this place a better world.
