This list is the correct place for these questions. You may want to review
the archives at http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/ for a little more detail as to
phplib/PEAR.

That's all very up in the air. Work is being done to PEARify the current
7.2c release (it's at sourceforge, pear-phplib is the project name, i
think), the PEAR folks don't really like phplib (the API) and there has been
static in the past on how to best make everyone happy. To that end several
phplib users on this list have stepped up to maintain phplib, I assume until
such time as the PEAR port work is as bug free, robust, stable and fast as
the current phplib release, which may be never :)

Correct.

I am currently working on revamping the phplib website in terms of looks and
functionality. phpSlash ( http://www.phpslash.org ) is part of that plan.

I'm probably about a week or two away from putting the new site live, I need
to get a few new graphics to topics, and clean up some of the HTML, test the
existing stuff, copy back some databases, etc...

A note will go out to this list when the change is about to take place
because I'll need to shutdown the site for a while I re-sync the databases
and test to make sure everything is setup correctly.

As far as helping out goes: bugfixes, extended functionality, and
compatibility with php4 are all things that need doing, so send in those
patches!

I don't think phplib is going anywhere anytime soon (unless stig's binary db
interface really does shave off a lot of time from PEAR/DB.. but still I
think that's kind of cheating.. :), and even if so, there should be a
suitable wrapper for phplib API -> PEAR API to use while porting to the
native PEAR interface.
