[phplib] Tempestuous Template Triangle From: Peter Bowyer (reywob <email protected>)
Date: 04/23/01

Hi,

As you may have guessed, this is a question about... template
classes. There appear to be 3 in PHPLib at the moment - template.inc, the
original; IT, and ITX, which seems to have joined PEAR. The question is,
what are the advantages (for I assume there must be some) to IT[X] ? Why
was another one written?

Also, has anyone any thoughts about Smarty? I am need to use a template
class, but as most of my data will be unchanging, I am thinking that using
a "traditional" template class with a caching class is probably going to be
more efficient than using Smarty. I also don't like the thought of mixing
logic in with the template - which defeats the object of separating design
from code! Anyhow, if anyone can back up or demolish the arguments above,
please do so, as with so many template classes around it's a little
difficult deciding which to use, let alone deciding what's the difference
between most of them - look at the list at
http://phpclasses.upperdesign.com/browse.html/class/1 to see what I mean :-)

TIA,
Peter.
