Kerberos, NISplus, and any other system which allows shared access to a
data repository, NFS, LDAP, CIFS.

As a matter, when using the "file" session system, if one puts the auth
dir on a shared resource, the session vars just work, given similar enough
PHP installs. I use this between my dev server and test server.
