Are you behind a firewall ? I had a similar-souding problem with my Oracle
system, when the inactive persistent connection would be timed out
overnight by the firewall, but the web server still thought the connection
is there until the process died or was killed. We tweaked the Oracle
timeout to be less than the firewall timeout to get rid of this problem.
