Actually you don't...and you do :-)
Let me explain that.
Yes, you need X, *if* you install Oracle 8i. That means any version that
begins with 8.1. On the other hand, if you can find an older release,
say 8.0.5 or 8.0.4 or whatever, it doesn't need X. It runs from the
console. As far as I can tell, PHP cannot tell the difference :-)
Now how can someone get his hands on such a beauty...
