I know gd version 1.3 supports gif. YOu can probably dig it up on
google... wait.. I think I remember "fly" using gd 1.3.x and I think it
provides the source with it.

If you download the tarball, it *should* have gd version 1.3 in a
directory in there somehwere.

No idea if it still works with PHP.
