Yes, that was a bit of a wind up!
I also do a lot of work with Mac-OS. And most of my (important!) customers
- design companies - only use Macs (of course ;-). One of my recurring
headaches is dealing with minor changes to source files which the customer
had downloaded onto my server, replete with Mac newlines (=CR).
My vi (=vim or =nvi I think - are they the same? - standard RedHat
distribution anyway) cannot deal with these files. So I do a lot of faffing
about converting to LF's, do the edit and convert back to CR's.
Does anybody have a config/patches for vi which enables it to seamlessly
handle Mac text files as it does DOS text files?
And please don't suggest I use emacs or similar (even if it can do the job?)
because I'm far too long in the tooth to start over with a new editor! I
don't think I've ever managed to terminate an inadvertent emacs session
short of killing it from another shell. What a monster!
TIA
John
