[PHP3] Off topic - Web Management Application From: Al Brown (abrown <email protected>)
Date: 07/15/98

Hi,

I've just converted GUI Works' Web Management System (E-grail) from PHP2 to
PHP3, and I just wanted to share what we are doing with PHP to the list so
please forgive this off-topic post.

E-Grail is a server-side application that users interface through their
browsers to create and manage full-scale, database-driven web sites.

E-Grail can help commoditize web services for small and medium-sized
corporations by giving these customers the ability to manage their sites
without installing an in-house server or relying on their ISPs to make
content changes. This is what smaller companies need to establish a big
presence on the web.

E-grail uses MySQL & PHP3, and manages binary data, content, look and feel,
plus it has a few other utilities.

It is designed for ISP's, to ad-agencies, to web shops to manage many
different sites at the same time.

It generates static-pages for the webserver which can include any type of
scripting. By static, I mean the webserver does not have to know about
E-grail.

For more information check out www.egrail.com (company - www.guiworks.com).

I've included a copy of a press release at the bottom

Thanks,

-Al

BREAKTHROUGH SOFTWARE FOR WEB SITE MANAGEMENT:

E-Grail Creates Million Dollar Sites for a Few Dollars a Month

WASHINGTON - (June 19, 1998) -- The search for a powerful web management
tool that is inexpensive, scaleable and platform independent is over,
thanks to introduction of E-Grail, a revolutionary new software
concept. The product, released this week by GUI Works, a cutting-edge
software development company based in Washington DC, gives companies
capabilities normally reserved for million-dollar sites for a fraction
of the cost.

E-Grail allows users, from the novice to the experienced webmaster, to
build and manage complex, database-driven web sites via their internet
browsers for just a few dollars a month. It's the ideal solution for
companies that want to create state-of-the-art web sites without wreking
the budget.

"A decent Web site is no longer cost prohibitive for smaller companies,"
says Noah Dan, GUI Works president. "Before E-Grail, web management
software that could handle full-scale corporate sites carried a
six-figure price tag. That required customers to make a costly and
irreversible commitment. People don't like to commit to any type of web
technology because of the fast rate of change. With E-Grail, there is no
need buy expensive software that might be obsolete in a few months."

"In essence, E-Grail puts the abilities that were once limited to those
versed in scripting languages into the hands of everyone on your web
team," adds Albert Brown, GUI Works technical director.

E-GRAIL OFFERS FREE TEST SITE
E-Grail is a first in the field of "rentable" applications for web site
management. The software resides on a server, not on the user's hard
drive, so there is nothing to download, install or configure.
With a pay-as-you-use set up, users can test the system on any scale
before they pay a penny.

To introduce E-Grail, GUI Works has developed a "test farm" at
http://www.egrail.com where users can create their own web site. The
offer includes one month's free hosting. After a one-month test period,
companies can license the software themselves, or use it in conjunction
with a commercial hosting contract at a participating ISP for a small
surcharge.

ISP's, agencies and web shops are considered distributers and are not
charged for the software.

    Key Features of E-Grail Include:
 * Platform independent on both server and client's end.
 * Integration of design, architecture and production with controlled
management and security.
        - Assets management
        - Page management (with revision control)
        - Objects (and related links)
        - Template management
        - User access management
        - Project management
 * The software is upgraded automatically through online propagation.

GUI Works maintains offices in Washington, D.C.(301) 765-0858, and
Golden, Colorado (303) 273-9790..
