RE: [PHP3] WebTen and PHP? From: Brian Schaffner (BSchaffner <email protected>)

Run FreeBSD 2.2.6 on the Pentium. Go to http://www.freebsd.org and
follow the very easy installation instructions. Once you download the
book disk - you can do the entire installation over the 'net (even using
PPP via a modem and even behind a firewall!).

Very easy and quick to set up (well, depending on your connectivity of
course).

On the other hand - if you want ultimate compatibility with your Sparc -
then go get Solaris x86. If you'd rather have lots of hardware options,
run Linux (RedHat or Slackware should do just fine). If you want to wish
evil upon your soul, go get a copy of SCO. Of if you want a good all
around commercial and usable product with decent support and runs good
get BSDI.

I would personally avoid running anything that I needed to depend on on
the Power Mac - which doesn't mean the Power Mac is bad - just that the
above solutions have been proven to work.

You asked for opinions - I'm sure you'll get many more :-)
