Well... This list *IS* getting out of hand, honestly...

So maybe the circumstances have changed enough from back when this was last
discussed to re-examine the question...

I actually look at every message every day. Of course, as soon as I see
it's an install thing, I delete it. If it's an Oracle thing, I only check
to be sure that it isn't something not related to Oracle. Ditto for mysql,
msql, odbc, and every other db except PostgreSQL. Actually, I can fake it
for msql and mysql, and sometimes do. I find it easier than trying to
fight with a newsreader, since I already have to read my e-mail. I haven't
actually used a newsreader (not counting archives that come up from web
searches) for a couple years now. Too many spammers posting and/or
scamming my e-mail. Just not worth it.

Anyway, it's a lot of messages, and I'd really, really like to read just
the ones about postgresql and general PHP scripting stuff. I suspect many
other users would also agree.

#1 Presumably the developer[s] who write the install stuff (makefile?)
would be on that list, since it would be one of the first places problems
with their makefile would show up.

#2 There are also probably kind, generous people out there who know they
understand the install process better than us mere mortals that would
subscribe out of the goodness of their hearts just to answer questions.
Well, I can dream.

#3 And, there's always you :-), which might be the same as #1 and #2 put
together, since you seem to be the one always answering those questions.
:-) :-) :-)

I realize that in the ideal world there would be somebody else with the
same setup that installed it and knows what went wrong, but there's so many
variables with versions and modules and OS and software that *MOST* of the
useful install answers seem to come from you (and Shane for NT) anyway...

I truly believe that the few people who are already answering the install
questions will subscribe and continue to do so, and it would be a nice for
those of use who don't have a clue about install to not have to wade
through it.

Hypothesis: Most users would prefer a split along these lines:

install
mysql
postgresql
oracle
msql
other_db
general
novice

I volunteer to collect votes, if the developers would desire that to happen...
