I use xemacs, I've found it to be very good if you tell it that .php3 files are C++,
but you may find C mode better. To accomplish this you just need to edit the .emacs
file. I got my changes from the sample .emacs file that came with the editor.

If you do find something specifically for PHP I would be very interested. I did use
HTML Kit from chami.com (I think) on Windows, but have found nothing similar for
Linux. That piece of kit was free thoough.
