There seems to be a groundswell of annoyance at it - the list is very busy with technical issues.
Personally, I don't mind one way or the other, but it's easier to have an opt-in list for these
non-techie posting that receiving an ever-increasing amount of mail that you need to manually sort
through.

It's simply a service to help PHP developers, but the response has been so overwhelming that the list is
there to stay, I would say.
