make -f build.mk cvsclean
cvs upd -dP
buildconf

Got:

creating empty dependencies
touch: {}/.deps cannot create
touch: {}/.deps cannot create
touch: {}/.deps cannot create
touch: {}/.deps cannot create
and so on

Nobody tried to design Windows - it just grew in random
directions without any kind of thought behind it.
