I haven't checked other operating systems yet, but on FreeBSD 4.0 if you
include --with-mcal on the PHP 4 ./configure line then the various crypt
tests fail.

Without --with-mcal they work just fine. Nothing jumps out at me as a
problem on the PHP side here. I have a feeling you are doing something
funky in libmcal, but I haven't looked at the code, so...
